The ongoing saga of the Final Fantasy XIV open beta continues with Square Enix revealing beta codes are being limited due to the servers not being able to handle the demand.
After having the beta delayed a day due to a critical error sign ups are finally being taken however the demand is more than expected for Square Enix. In a statement on the account page of the beta site the developer revealed, "Due to heavy server traffic, we are continuing to experience Square Enix Account Management System congestion."
"Currently, players may not be able to log into the Final Fantasy XIV Open Beta Test, or acquire registration codes for the game.”
According to Square Enix the technical staff are “monitoring the situation closely” and the issue is currently being worked on to resolve.
The statement continued revealed codes were being limited to quell the strain on the servers, "As a countermeasure to the congestion, we are currently limiting the acquisition of registration codes for the Open Beta Test. If you cannot acquire a registration code, or if you are unable to access the Square Enix Account Management System, we ask that you please wait and try again later. We apologize for any inconvenience."
Final Fantasy XIV is meant to be released on 22 September on PC with a special collector's edition launching alongside a standard edition of the MMORPG. The PS3 version will hit shelves in March with the delay down to memory issues.
