While most characters in Valkyria Chronicles II run on to the battlefield carrying rifles and machine guns, you can train a squad of sword fighters.Valkyria Chronicles II has a branching class system where players can choose specialties for their units. The mine diffusing Armored Tech class can become a sandbag wall repairing Tech Veteran or melee Fencer. Avan, the hotheaded main character, is a free agent. He can pick any class he wants.
