The newly announced Dragon Age II will sport numerous changes such as an updated combat system and revamped visuals. However, it won't stray from its single-player roots.
"Dragon Age 2 is a single player game," stated BioWare community manager Chris Priestly on the game's forums.
Story-heavy games with branching dialogue don't really lend themselves toward multiplayer. However, multiplayer could've been fun in conjunction with the Dragon Age toolset. WithNeverwinter Nights, for example, one player could act as the "Dungeon Master" and lead the other players along in a story. Other NWN user-created modules featured persistent worlds, creating an experience similar to a mini MMO.
Still, both Dragon Age: Origins and its expansion Awakening had their share of problems. It's better for BioWare to address them directly rather than try to paper over them with a flashy new feature like co-op.
